It's that time of the year again, the day you circle on the calendar as soon as the schedule is released. Families are divided, fans spill over the border to support their team, fans talk trash to each other, players talk trash to each other, and fights break out. Of course I am talking about Packers week. The Minnesota Vikings and Green Bay Packers renew their rivalry this Sunday in front of a sold-out crowd at the Metrodome.

The rivalry burns hot as ever. The Packers hold the series lead at 44-42-1. The Vikings hold the playoff series lead 1-0. After two heartbreaking losses in the regular season both on last second Ryan Longwell field goals, both ending in a 34-31 score, with the latter clinching the Division for the Packers in front of a stunned Minnesota crowd. In the third meeting of the season, the Vikings stepped up and won when it mattered. In the NFC Wildcard game at Lambeau Field, the Vikings took it to the Packers early and often, winning 31-17. This of course was the game made infamous by Randy Moss mooning the fans incident after his fourth quarter touchdown. Moss has since been traded to the Oakland Raiders.

With both teams struggling thus far with 1-4 records, the game is that much more important. One team has a chance to be tied for first place with a 2-4 record, while the other will be stuck in last place and fading fast with a 1-5 record.

Brett Favre has a career record of 4-9 in the Metrodome. This is the fourth time in the last five regular season games that the teams have met with first place at stake.
