On the last play of the first quarter, Minnesota Vikings quarterback Daunte Culpepper was injured after scrambling for an 18 yard gain. Culpepper did not slide and was hit by Panthers defenders Mike Minter and Chris Gamble.

The Vikings' signal caller seemed to be in a lot of pain, and the training staff was forced to come out onto the field. Eventually, Culpepper had to be carted off.

The initial prognosis is that Daunte Culpepper has a sprained right knee. Culpepper's return is doubtful and he may miss significant time. Brad Johnson will take over as the quarterback for the time being.
