The bad news just got worse for the Minnesota Vikings. Initially the Vikings were hoping that Culpepper only sprained his right knee. On Monday an MRI on Daunte Culpepper's right knee showed tears in all three major ligaments: the anterior cruciate, posterior cruciate and medial collateral.

Culpepper will miss all of this season and possibly part of next season. Recovery time is usually one year for injuries of this magnitude.

Culpepper sustained the injury on the last play of the first quarter when he scrambled for an 18 yard gain. Culpepper didn't slide and was hit high by Mike Minter, and took a helmet to the side of the knee by Panthers cornerback Chris Gamble.

Brad Johnson takes over the reigns for the Minnesota Vikings, and hopes he can provide a little magic. Johnson was the Vikings starting quarterback from 1996-1998. He finds himself in a similar situation, only this time on the flip side. In the second game of the 1998 season Johnson, then the starter for the Vikings broke his thumb. Backup quarterback Randall Cunningham was able to rejuvenate his career and lead the Vikings to a 15-1 record in the regular season and a trip to the NFC Championship game.

Seven years later and Brad Johnson finally gets his shot to run the Minnesota Vikings offense again. The days of Chris Carter and Randy Moss at wide receiver, Robert Smith at running back, and Brian Billick as the offensive coordinator are gone, but Johnson thinks he can still win with the Vikings.
