Shortly after their 34-10 victory over the Chicago Bears on Sunday, Vikings owner Zygi Wilf fired head coach Mike Tice. This brings an end to the era of mediocrity and distractions. Tice finishes with a 32-33 record in the regular season (he lost his first game as an interim coach during the final contest of 2001) and a 1-1 playoff record as the head coach of the Vikings. During his time, the Vikings have underachieved and have had numerous off the field issues that embarrassed the organization as well as the community.

Tice sealed his fate when he ripped Vikings fans for scalping tickets. Doesn't this man understand that it's the same thing he did. Remember those Super bowl tickets you had Mike? It's bad enough that he was being a hypocrite, but to alienate your fan base is just plain stupid. Especially when you have a fan friendly and fan oriented owner in Zygi Wilf as your boss.

Forget all the off the field stuff, his numerous boneheaded ill-fated decisions, knack for faltering down the stretch, and inability to win any big games are all grounds for his firing. In fact had previous owner Red McCombs not been such a cheap careless owner, Tice never would have been the head coach. Given the fact that he finished 6-10 in his first season, then fell apart down the stretch of the 2003 season (that year ended on the last play of the last regular season game when his team lost to the lowly Arizona Cardinals), Tice should have been fired already.

It's a great day to be a Vikings fan. They finished the season with a win against a divisional opponent, and best of all Mike Tice is finally gone. The organization has taken a big step forward by moving on and ending this disgusting era. Now the Vikings are looking for a GM as they revamp their whole front office, and a coach that will lead them to glory and represent the organization and fan base with class. Owner Zygi Wilf made his first big move Sunday in his quest to turn the Vikings organization into a model franchise and perennial winner.
