Mike Tice admits to scalping Super Bowl tickets

NEW YORK, NY - Minnesota Vikings coach Mike Tice has admitted to scalping Super Bowl tickets and expects to be in trouble with the NFL.

SI.com reported Tice told NFL investigators that he scalped some of his allotment of 12 tickets for last month's Super Bowl XXXIX. "I probably shouldn't have sold my tickets," Tice told SI.com on Thursday. "I made a mistake. I regret it. I'll never do it again. I'm going to be in trouble. I'll probably get slapped with a big fine."

The website had previously reported Tice was being investigated by the NFL for allegedly heading up and profiting from a Super Bowl ticket-scalping operation. The NFL requires all players, coaches and club personnel who buy Super Bowl tickets to sign a release stating they will not re-sell them at a profit.

Each NFL player has the right to purchase two Super Bowl tickets at face value, which was either $500 or $600 this year, depending on seat location. According to the SI.com report, those who gave Tice their tickets received $1,900. "I sold some of my tickets this year," Tice told SI.com on Thursday. "I did. I told the league that and I told (Vikings owner) Red McCombs that. I'm not going to lie. But if I'm going to be thrown out this year for selling tickets, then I'm a scapegoat."

However, Tice denied approaching players about their tickets according to the report.

ESPN had reported that Tice acknowledged that he scalped Super Bowl tickets as a Vikings assistant from 1996-2001 but not as the coach. Tice, the league's lowest-paid coach at $1 million per season, is 23-25 in 3 seasons. He is entering the final year of his contract.
