The Minnesota Vikings have signed second-round pick Cedric Griffin to a four-year deal. Griffin, one of three second-round picks for Minnesota, becomes the third rookie to sign with the team joining DE Ray Edwards and S Greg Blue.

Griffin, a 6-0, 199 pound cornerback, was a first team All-Big 12 player for the Texas Longhorns and was a key contributor in Texas' national championship season. In 50 games, with 43 starts, Griffin finished with 267 tackles, three interceptions, five forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.

During his career, the versatile Griffin split time at corner and both safety positions. Although he has the size and aggressiveness, scouts think he may not have the speed necessary to become an elite NFL cornerback. Minnesota coaches project him as a free safety, and believe Griffin can be very successful in their new cover-two scheme that's being installed by first-year defensive coordinator Mike Tomlin.

The Vikings still have first-round LB Chad Greenway, and second-round selections, C Ryan Cook and QB Tarvaris Jackson, left to sign before training camp begins July 27.
