After an emotional victory last Sunday over the Detroit Lions, the Minnesota Vikings are 3-2 entering this week's bye. Next up is a road contest with the Seattle Seahawks on Oct. 22. During the off week, fans have been wondering about various issues. Here are some samples as to what was on their minds:

Eric, at first I was unhappy with the free agent signing of Chester Taylor. However, now I'm starting to come around. What are your thoughts?
-- Scott Collins, Minneapolis, Minn.

EK: Scott, I think a lot of people are in your boat right now. No pun intended. They didn't know much about Taylor other than he was the backup to Jamal Lewis in Baltimore. His skill set is perfect for the West Coast offense the Vikings are running, and he has shown the ability to carry the load thus far. Personally, I liked the signing at the time, and it looks great now. As bad as the offense has been, it's tough to imagine how bad it would currently be without him.

I am really impressed with what Mike Tomlin has done with the defense. I've become worried that other teams may be looking at him as a possible head coach soon. Should I be?
-- Jeff Rodriguez, Des Moines, Iowa

EK: Jeff, you're not alone on this one. A lot of Vikings fans have been asking me about this. I know head coach Brad Childress said he wouldn't block any of his assistants from moving up the coaching ranks, but I don't see Tomlin going anywhere for a while. In the long term, if Tomlin's defense can keep up the stellar play, he will certainly become a head coaching candidate. However, that's at least four or five years down the road. So, for now, don't worry, be happy the Vikings have such a great young coach instructing the defensive troops.

Eric, I've been completely unimpressed with Brad Johnson this year. Is it a good idea to start Tavaris Jackson as soon as possible? I'm tired of Johnson's ineptitude!
-- Eric Carlson, Angola, NY

EK: Eric, as long as the Vikings are in the playoff hunt, which they likely will be all season, Johnson will start--barring injury, of course. As unimpressive as most of his stats are, mainly the 78.3 quarterback rating, the only stat Brad Childress cares about is the win-loss mark. The veteran signal caller is careful with the football, and is a few dropped passes away from having better statistics. With that said, Johnson still hasn't been overly impressive, but he never has been. He gets by on playing mistake-free football, making the plays that are there, and most of all--winning.
