Minnesota Vikings running back Onterrio Smith has been suspended for the entire 2005 season by the National Football League. The NFL confirmed that Smith had violated the league's substance abuse policy. The suspension was expected after the NFL instructed the Vikings to excuse Smith from their offseason program last month.

Smith was stopped at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport on April 21 after his bag set off a screening device. A search found several vials of dried urine and "The Original Whizzinator."
With 2 previous violations of the league's substance abuse policy, Smith was subject to a 1 year ban with another infraction.

The 5'10", 214 pound Smith led the Vikings with 544 rushing yards on 124 carries in 2004, despite missing 4 games for a drug suspension. He was expected to battle for a starting job this year with Michael Bennett and Mewelde Moore.
