Strongside defensive end Brent Urban of Mississauga, Ont., Canada, gave his verbal commitment to Virginia Saturday. The eighth commitment for Al Groh’s 2009 class, Urban is listed as 6-foot-7 and 264 pounds.

Last season as a junior, Urban totaled 16 tackles for loss, 10 sacks and eight pass breakups.

Urban chose the Cavaliers over Akron, UConn, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Maryland, Michigan State, N.C. State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Rutgers and Tennessee. RC Bob Price is credited as the primary.

COMMENTARY: One bright light in Groh’s troublesome offseason is his recruiting; Virginia’s class for 2009 is shaping up.
