Phoebus High School (Hampton, Va.) safety LoVanté Battle gave Virginia his oral commitment for the 2009 class. The Battle commitment comes only one day after running back Perry Jones announced his intentions to become a Cavalier and three days after defensive end Brent Urban made his oral commitment.

"I think coach (Bob) Pruett did a good job of getting down here and making it known that they were going to make a big push to get some kids from the 757 (area code)," Battle’s high school head coach, Bill Dee, said. "He's a heckuva football player. His highlight tape is as good as anybody's."

The 5-foot-11, 190-pounder runs a 4.45-second 40 and chose Charlottesville over East Carolina, Duke, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Stanford and Syracuse. Battle is Virginia’s 10th commitment.

COMMENTARY: What a windfall of good fortune for coach Al Groh and recruiting coordinator Bob Pruett over just a handful of days. At this rate, the Cavs will have a formidable 2009 class by the start of the upcoming season.
