Bethel High (Hampton, Va.) running back Jontel Evans gave his solid verbal to the Virginia Cavaliers on Friday for the ’09 class.

Last season as a junior, the 5-foot-11, 190-pounder rushed for 1,500 yards and 27 touchdowns. In 2006, the then-sophomore rushed for 1,344 yards and seven scores.

He chose Charlottesville over Marquette and N.C. State.

COMMENTARY: Coach Al Groh’s program is loading up on running backs: Evans is the fourth one to commit for the class. The program now sports 19 total commitments for '09.
