Virginia Tech head coach Frank Beamer announced today the dismissal of running back Branden Ore from the team.

"During recent meetings with Branden Ore, we have decided that it would be best for Branden to pursue other opportunities," Beamer said. "Branden has had many great moments here at Virginia Tech, and we wish him well in the future."

A top rusher in the ACC over the past two seasons, the starting senior rushed for 2,129 yards and scored 26 touchdowns over that period, and earned first-team All-ACC honors in 2006.

No official reason was given for Ore's dismissal.

Commentary: This is a huge blow to the Hokies' offense, as it struggled last season to begin with. Who knows why this occurred, but it must have been something very serious for the star running back to be kicked off the team. It's possible coach Beamer feels mobile quarterback Tyrod Taylor, who will be a sophomore next season, will make up for the difference, because Taylor has been compared to Michael Vick among many fans.
