Virginia Tech has stripped top recruit Peter Rose of his scholarship offer after the prospect's Friday arrest over selling drugs to an undercover Amherst County (Virginia) Sheriff's deputy.

"Each scholarship offer we make is contingent upon a number of requirements, one of which is maintaining the high standards required of each recruit in their community, school and on the football field," head coach Frank Beamer said. "I am disappointed that this action was necessary."

Rose, who amassed almost 3,000 yards and 40 touchdowns as Group AA Player of the Year last season, signed with the Hokies for the 2008 recruiting class and was projected as a defensive back.

COMMENTARY: Rose's career tragically ended before it even started because of a big mistake. With all the promise he had, it is indeed sad how his life has changed for the worse just over the past few days.
