Virginia Tech received verbal commitments from two cornerbacks for the 2009 class. James Hopper of Fayetteville, N.C., and Jerrodd Williams of Central, S.C., gave Frank Beamer the nod after the first of two summer camps Saturday.

The 5-foot-9, 179-pound Hopper of Seventy-First High chose Blacksburg over Wake Forest, Duke, N.C. State and Vanderbilt.

Williams, a 6-0, 185-pounder from Daniel High, runs a 4.36-second 40 and had 68 tackles and four picks last season. Williams also returned 13 kicks, averaging 44 yards per runback, and scored three touchdowns. He chose Tech over Clemson, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.

COMMENTARY: Hopper and Williams are only the second and third commitments for VT's ’09 class. Furthermore, they were the first commitments in nine months.
