Washington State announced that the NCAA approved an additional year of eligibility for defensive end Matt Mullennix. This will be his sixth year.

The senior appealed because of medical reasons. He has been hampered with injuries during his career, having missed all of 2006 because of a knee injury and his 2004 season ended early because of another knee ailment.

Last season he recorded 33 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, a sack, broken-up pass and quarterback hurry.

COMMENTARY: This must have Cincinnati fans fuming; after all, quarterback Ben Mauk was denied an additional year of eligibility after he appealed for medical reasons. Why the NCAA pardoned Mullennix and not Mauk is a mystery.
