So what do you know about Noel Devine, if you're a football fan but don't follow the University of West Virginia closely?

You know he's fast. You know he'll be the featured running back for the Mountaineers this season, replacing Houston Texans draftee Steve Slaton.

And you might also know that he got in a little trouble earlier this year in Morgantown, something about a bar fight. Another one of those imported thugs, you might have thought at the time.

Actually, Devine was never charged with anything in that altercation. Moreover, last week in his hometown of Fort Myers, he and former high school teammate Quenton Washington (a redshirt freshman DB at South Florida) spent a weekend running the first 239 Future All-Stars Football Camp.

"It speaks for itself," Devine told the Fort Myers News-Press. "A lot of these kids can be were we are, too, if they focus on their fundamentals."

For Devine, it was a rare chance to be looked up to. The rising Mountaineer sophomore stands only 5-foot-8.

"I'm proud of Noel and Quenton," said local high school coach Scott Kilhefner, whose son attended the camp. "From when Micah was 4 or 5, Noel has always been so good with him. "

"Devine's my favorite player," Micah Kilhenfer told the News-Press, "because he's good."

West Virginia coach Bill Stewart would agree with that.

Meanwhile, Washington -- who hopes to fill one of the starting USF cornerback spots vacated by Mike Jenkins and Trae Williams, also NFL draftees -- had a fan of his own.

"He's going to be the best ever," said Rashad Washington, Quenton's 12-year-old brother. "But I'm going to be better than him."

A number of other locally spawned college players participated in the camp, which was held at a Fort Myers Community Center.
