Alabama Crimson Tide
If Bobby Boucher was a real person, he would say that "Nick Saban is the devil, Mama!" That's because the fictional Cajun football player, played by Adam Sandler in the acclaimed film "The Waterboy" would be none too happy about the ethnic slur that Saban, the Alabama football coach, used in a recent taped conversation. The word in question,...

This is just crazy...you ask any coonass if that offends them to be called that and 99% will say no. It is not a ethnic slur. While campaigning for President in Louisiana, Ronald Reagan once suggested his own appointment as an "honorary Cajun coonass".
and also, do journalists have any integrity, do they know what off the record means? and it wasn't even Saban's words! He was telling the story told to him by a LSU Board member!!!! it was a room full of guys having a conversation, and Saban tells this funny story. Lay off the guy!

I can't believe it's Super Bowl week and this is a big story.

Ali, I don't know what Cajuns you are speaking of, but I am married to one, am related to several and have countless others as friends and peers and I can tell you that it is very offensive to the ones I know when used in this context. It is like any other ethnic slur in that it is only acceptable for those of that ethnicity to use it, otherwise it is racism. I think Saban knew what he was saying and it says a lot about his character.

If you listen to to comment, yes he was telling his friends story but he didnt say "my friend said". Those were his words. It's not too much of a surprise that he said it. We all saw the content of his character with the way he left LSU and Mia. There is no question it was a ethnic slur.
