Auburn Tigers
In 2008, the Auburn Tigers lost the Iron Bowl against hated rival Alabama for the first time in a while. In fact, the Crimson Tide team the Tigers lost to was undefeated at the time. So why the change in this historic rivalry? First, Auburn wasn't all that good. Second, Alabama has Nick Saban. Beyond being a stellar college football coach, ...

Robert,
I hope that I don't come across as offensive. I think that you're a talented writer and you sell your passion for Auburn football quite well. With that being said, I can't, any longer, ignore headings such as this one and, "Auburn now recruiting on Alabama's level".

Auburn is making some noise on the recruiting scene, but so far, it hasn't produced any results. The Tigers are certainly able to offer immediate playing time, but anyone who has ever been involved with organized sports knows one thing All to well; It's no fun to lose.

I think that recruits are not sure about what kind of team Chizik is going to create. He may turn out to be a very good coach but looking at his track record as a head coach, it's not that good. Now please save the, "it was Iowa State" defense. Chizik's winning percentage at Iowa State was just under 21 percent. If one looks at his predeccessors, most were in the mid-thirties to low-forties range. One must go back to 1942 to find a coach who did worse. In other words, Chizik took a bad team and made them worse.

What does this spell for recruiting? Maybe nothing, maybe everything. Scout.com has released their rankings for 2010 in recruiting. Alabama is #2, Auburn is #40. Now that may not mean anything until Febuary, but currently, Auburn is not recruiting on Alabama's level. That's simply not true.

I may be forced to take a closer look at these words in the future. Good luck in 2009!
