No controversy, but Bills’ Losman still eases second-string fears

Buffalo Bills
It shouldn’t be that surprising that Buffalo Bills quarterback J.P. Losman looked sharp in Indianapolis on Sunday: He did accumulate over 3,000 passing yards while starting all 16 games for a troubled offense during 2006, which wasn’t even an Olympics ago. While fond memories of the Torino Games were eclipsed in the minds of Bills fans by...

Unless Losman wants to get closer to home (CA); he's better off here.
Anywhere else he could go to would not guarantee him a starting job. He'd have to compete against some one's incumbent or two. And, who is he really better than right now ? Plus, he'd have to learn new offenses and their jargon. Here; what's to learn ? With the precarious nature of his position; he'll always get playing time. Will he ever be a team's go to starter ? I guess, unless he thinks he'd be better off trying to win the job in, say, Minnesota; he'll just have to hope they want him at the end of this year.

Losman could probably start in Minnesota, Baltimore, Miami or Kansas City (maybe the Bears or 49ers too). Would the Bills trade JP to one of those teams for a proven OT?

Whomever the Bills start at QB is going to benefit from a good OL (it all starts there), which appearently dodged a bullet last night with the Walker injury and his down time might be limited.

If the Bills were smart, there would do one of two things before heading into the regular season: 1) sign a proven OT or 2) make peace with Jason Peters.

Dustin Dickinson might be an interesting undrafted free agent, but is not the answer to a winning season this year.

It was great to see the Bills come up with so many turnovers, but the Indy homerun ball that went sailing over McKelvin's mistimed attempt to defend was another example of how inexperience could cost the Bills dearly in the regular season.

1) McKelvin won't be starting for a while and making his mistake during preseason (and getting reamed by the coaches and himself for weeks) is perfect. He probably won't make it again. This ain't college where he probably got to that ball...

2) It's great to have Losman for this year as I doubt TE will get through every game once the live bullets start flying

3) Amir, your Losman logic is wishful thinking when so many starting QB situations are uncertain in the NFL. He simply has to try to start somewhere else...if he ends up #2 somewhere else, as least he tried...

4) Come on LGB, no one will trade anything for Losman. All they have to do is wait til year end and sign him, giving up nothing... can't trade for him now.. too late to get him up to speed b4 season starts..

5) Bills are playing Peters correctly. No doubt. They cave now they set a precedent for Crowell and any number of others. I say they need to develop Bell (whose background is very very similar to Peters, BTW), Butler, Chambers et al and get TE and JP to get rid of the ball fast (somethign JP did extremely well last night and TE does in general).. and keep the other OLs healthy...
