I give credit to Dick Jauron for having the courage to go for it on 4th and goal even if it was against one of the worst run defenses in the NFL. After all it wasn't that long ago that his willingness to show
confidence in his team's ability to gain one yard at home resulted in turning the ball over at their own 10 as his players let him down.
Why am I not impressed by a 300 plus pound offensive lineman getting in the face of a 200 lbs. safety? Hey it's nice for this team to show a little spirit but its not like Preston was calling out the Patriots 300 plus pound "dirtiest player in the NFL"defensive tackle Wolfork for a cheap shot. You can be pretty brave when you've got a 100 lbs. weight class advantage on the guy you're challenging.
Just as an aside to today's column; does anyone remember the debate last spring when the scheduling came out? I said then that you can't judge the comming season's schedule by the previous season's team's results and I think I am proven correct. Looking at the Bills schedule the teams considered to be tough to beat were the Jags and Chargers who were playoff teams last season but are now both 4-7. The Broncos tied with the Bills at 6-5. Seattle a perennial playoff team now 2-9. Not many were worried about the Jets now 8-3 with a bullet and sitting on top of the AFC East or the Dolphins also tied with the Bills at 6-5 and holding the tie-breaker advantage. One of the really cool things about the NFL is that for most teams not named Lions, Bengals or Bills the previous seasons won loss record is not an accurate barometer of how the team will play the next season.
Speaking of the Lions while I'm pratilling along, is anyone else as amazed as I am that the NFL continues to feature this turkey of a team every Thanksgiving? The league is all about ratings and money, not sentimentality so how does a team that makes the playoffs about as often as Haley's Comet returns, continue to get a feature game on TV every Thanksgiving. I wish they'd at least make this game the one that they show on NFL Network that only 40% of the nation is wired into.

Nate, good post. I've been saying the same thing to my friends about the Lions (and Cowboys) playing on Thanksgiving every single year. I can understand the Cowboys playing because they have been winning over the last few years, but the sorry azz Lions?! Enough crap about those 2 teams always playing on Thanksgiving due to tradition. I would like to see different teams play on Thanksgiving every year.

Why did it take until the 11th game to finally use the play action pass? I'm hoping Schonert's trip up to the box helps him call a better game.

When it comes to running in the redzone, they need to give it to Lynch instead of Jackson. It's better to use a power runner in the red zone, instead of a speed and finesse runner like Jackson in those situations. I'm not trying to knock on Jackson, he's a great compliment to Lynch, but I feel like Lynch is a better redzone threat on the ground than Jackson is.

The reason they hadn't used play action passes was because until the Brown's game they hadn't been able to establish the run so nobody was going to bite on the fake. Let's hope when they face a real defense again they can still muster a running game. We'll see Patrick Willis this weekend.
I agree about using Lynch on short yardage over Jackson. Although they are both about the same size and Jackson also fights for extra yards, Lynch (at least to me) seems like the more powerful of the two.
How about the brilliant call against the Browns to go empty backfield on 3rd & 1? Yeah, why make the defense have to guess whether it's run or pass? Sometimes these offensive coordinators get too clever for their own good. Let's hope Schonert like Edwards is growing into the job!
