When all else failed, Bills’ defense failed less

Buffalo Bills
Winning nearly half their games doesn’t count, but the Buffalo Bills did manage to do some positive things during an ultimately rotten 2008 season. And fans don’t even have to limit recollections to the season’s rosily shiny first quarter, as the team performed well throughout the campaign in some aspects. Maybe “a handful” is more accurate than...

I have to say i agree w/ the idea of this article that the offense must play better in 09' and in turn that will make our defense that much stronger, however i think it could be written in a more positive way. I also agree that the players we aquired through the draft an free agency really made the biggest impact on defense, and one that was not mentioned was mckelvin. I was a little worried about him early on, especially in camp when corner was receiving a large amount of snaps ahead of mckelvin. but like i thought as well as many others once given some time to learn this system his natural talent would take over and he would start to become an impact player on this defense. Our defense was much and improved, and our offense was also much improved, the biggest thing w/ this team is just being consitant, and a lot of that on offense has to do w/ a young quarterback.

Not to mention an offensive line that underacheived in the running game for all but 4 games this season. I'll put some of the blame on our o-line, but i also have to place the majority of the blame on the o coordinator for not running the ball enough in certain games, and expecting a 2nd year qb to carry this team on his back. Now i believe that trent is our guy and he's the real deal and i also think that he is going to win us a lot of games in buffalo. But you must run the ball in order to protect our 2nd year qb, to keep from placing the game souly on his shoulders.

The rise of defense was noticable from horrible to mediocre and with some additions maybe next year they can rise from mediocre to slightly above average. A lot depends on if the young players--TE, Poz, Whitner, Evans, Leodis, Schouman/Fine, Lynch, Ellis, Jenkins, Peters and possibly McdisappointmentGargo progress to the next level and there is not too much fall off from the older vets.

There is always a tendency to blame the OC but the Bills have gone thru their share of them. It can't always be the OC's fault, some have left to become productive on other teams. The team needs better players and for the coaches to put the team in the position to win... We all know the DJ debate so there is no need to get into it again!

In Billsdaily.com Tony Boygo does a follow up article to his season ending article on his disgust on how the Bills season ended.

Said article sucks. Marcus Stroud = good offensive defenseman? Bialy is a sleep facilitator.
