Buffalo Bills
The over/under on the first calls for Ryan Fitzpatrick to assume the Buffalo Bills’ starting role is three seconds after Trent Edwards’ first multi-interception game in 2009. The Bills added the Wonderlic superstar early in free agency, meaning anxious coaches egged on by jumpy fans unfortunately have an option for overreaction if Edwards...

A.B. if you actually took the time to read any of the posts that are thinly connected to your articles you'd know the whole Fitzpatrick signing value was hashed over by your adoring reading audience from the time it happened through yesterday. Did love your Wonderlic Superstar discription of Fitzpatrick though and the Houshmandzadeh spell check enemy line was pretty amusing too.
It sure seems like with the lowest yards per pass completion average in the NFL Fitzpatrick is Dick's kind of guy. Dick via his good right arm Turk Schonert even had notorious deep ball thrower JP Losman thinking the myopic 3 yard dump-off pass was preferable to actually looking more than 10 yards down the field for an open receiver. Yup, Harvard graduate, dump ball lobber (even with 2 of the best wideouts in the game at his disposal), this could be a marriage made in heaven between Dick and Fritz.
In case you hadn't noticed even in the Cleveland game last season where for the first half Trent seemed to think he was playing for the Browns completing more passes to them than his Bills teammates, Dick didn't pull him. Trent Edwards is Jauron's quarterback. He's staked his coaching future on him. He knows if he throws him under the bus he might as well jump right under the wheels with him. Not such a bad thing for a young developing QB who will struggle. But I don't think you'll hear whatever number of Bills fans still bother to go to the Ralph this autumn calling for Fitzpatrick to replace Edwards. That too is by design and why guys like John Kitna and Gus Ferotte are not filling the back up role.

Nate,

I would have used different words but I couldn't have said it better. Jauron knows his future is tied to Trent's success. Fitzpatrick was signed as a guy that would in no way propose a threat to Trent. You even mentioned 2 names that I was hoping might end up in Buffalo uniforms. I was hoping for the next reborn veteran like Collins or Warner to come take the reigns from a rookie that's not ready to see what our team can really look like with a veteran competent QB. Oh well. Another year of young QB struggles.

I'm tired of hearing about potential and excuses. Somebody wake me up when Trent actually realises some of this supposed potential. Let me know when he can throw a couple multi TD and or 300+ yard games. Until then I'm going to keep hoping we find somebody better.

I can hear it Now---the fans chanting Fitz---Fitz---Fitz!!! I doubt it will happen but there have been stranger things that have happened in the NFL---From bag boy to MVP--Kurt Warner and Rich Gannon bouncing around the league to suddenly blossom for the Raiders---Harrison being cut by the Steelers 5x's to MVP--so who knows. I'm just trying to spin a positve note to the Fitz signing. We all now it was a safe signing for TE---the Bills bring in Fitz to a non-competitve situation. Don't want to upset TE's apple cart. Before they signed Fitz I thought they were going to move up Hamden to no#2 then draft a QB maybe from the 5th round on to develop.

Nate---yeah Kitna, Ferotte and my personal choice would be Garcia at least they could have talked to him. He dosen't have the strongest arm but he is a competitor, doesn't throw interceptions and buys time with his pocket presence.
