Bills must finally draft a good rusher at the last minute

Buffalo Bills
The Buffalo Bills are unfortunately consistent as a franchise. Much like the team’s shrinking fourth-quarter performances this decade, management doesn’t always finish drafts strongly. Particularly, they need to find a decent third rusher during this upcoming selection process. That has of recent years been an apparently tricky assignment. ...

Dwayne Wright and Xavier Oman both had their share of supporters leading up to their selections on draft day. Some so-called experts thought they were great sleeper picks at the time. Of course what seperates the truly good organizations from the weaker ones is the ability to see through all the hype and determine which players will actually help their team win football games. Otherwise they could just buy a copy of Mel Kiper Jr's Draft Digest and skip paying all that money for a college scouting department. I agree it doesn't take an incredibly rare alignment of the stars for a team to lose the services of one or both of their top runningbacks. Just ask the Patriots. So it's important that the Bills have a 3rd back that can do more than fog a mirror and play special teams. I have to agree runningbacks don't normally take a long break-in period so Oman's lack of productivity last season is disappointing. But it's pretty hard to get a read on a back who only has 6 carries on his NFL resume. Hopefully he looks more like the college stud he was this season or the Bills find a capable replacement for him.

Looking back at the Bills late round picks, they seem to have been more successful in the late 80's when the draft was 12 rounds--with such picks as Pike, Ballard, Wright, Loddish, Bailey, McKellar etc. Of course that was the height of building the SB teams. Let's face it good scouting and lots of luck help finding a gem in the latter rounds.

Nates correct if you listen to Kiper and the gang it seems every late pick was a steal or should have gone higher ala Wright and Simpson.

Nate's right; 6 carries is hardly a barometer for any player, let alone a RB.

But, Bialy's wrong about when we select a RB. As I mentioned days ago; Lynch is on precarious footing. The odds of him not lasting the 3 yr. duration of his probation is high. If he's even in a car (and not driving) and it gets pulled over and should anyone in the car get cited; he's in trouble. A 3rd, 4th or 5th round RB pick would be encouraging to see. I'm hopeful that they find their DE/LB and a TE. Then O-Lineman and RB for the back-up roles.
So, Oman better be ready for some competition.
And Lynch. . . wanna start a 'guess when he gets caught braking probation' pool !?!
