Bills’ Wilson could take stand against perversely racist NFL policy

Buffalo Bills
If either Buffalo Bills coach Dick Jauron or chief operating officer/quasi-general manager Russ Brandon fails, it would be thanks to each employee’s own incompetence. It’s not because they’re too pale. Yet, the NFL is doing what it can to turn staff pictures into mosaics. The league has expanded the Rooney Rule, which mandates that teams ...

Who's the black coach Dick beat out? I think that guy has a legitimate case for racism! Also wish Wuss would have had ANY competition in getting his job.

Patching servers tonight...good times.

Marvin Lewis interviewed for the Bills job after being a DC for the Ravens and Skins--he was beat out by Mularkey. Lewis also interviewed with the Bucs and it was reported that he and then GM Rich Mckay had reached an agreement. but that was overturned by the Glazers who then hired Gruden. Mckay & Gruden never got along and McKay was gone the next year.

I have to completely agree with Mr.Bialy this morning. There is no doubt that at one time racism was as rampant in the NFL as it was in every other walk of life. But today that isn’t the case. Just a few seasons ago the head coaches for both Super Bowl participants, the (Bears and the Colts) were African American. The reigning Super Bowl champion Steelers have an African American head coach. Forcing NFL teams to provide courtesy interviews to minority candidates for front office and coaching jobs won’t get more hired or open the eyes of any organization too blind to already be willing to consider hiring a minority coach or front office person. It will just waste everyone involved time. Any owner or front office which is still too ignorant to consider hiring a minority candidate is hurting itself by limiting its pool of potential quality applicants. I’m not naïve enough to believe racism is not still alive in America. I’m also aware innumerable white people have gotten their jobs based upon not what they know but whom they know. An advantage most minority members don’t have because there are still few members of the same race in a position to assist them. But I do not believe two wrongs make a right. I do not believe in affirmative action hiring policies enforced by the government. It may create a few job openings for minority members that weren’t there before but it also casts a pale of doubt upon the abilities of all minority members who are hired or promoted because you wonder whether they got to where they are through merit or because of a need to meet some government quota. It unfairly tarnishes and puts into doubt the accomplishments of minority members who have achieved success based upon the merit of their abilities and efforts. Taken to its extremes you get examples like those white firefighters that passed their promotional exams but had their test results voided because no minority candidates passed the same exam. It’s political correctness run amok. The NFL is probably ahead of the curve on racial equality in management compared to much of America. I don't see how forcing clubs to interview minority candidates they ultimately won't hire is helping anyone?
