Former Bill Losman understandably feels low

Buffalo Bills
J.P. Losman has officially, finally, blessedly moved on from the Buffalo Bills. Probably. He may be going to the United Football League, a new association that will undoubtedly be a bailout candidate before the year’s end. Losman is allegedly off to the Las Vegas franchise, which hasn’t yet established details such as its nickname. The ...

"Remembering Losman’s wasted tenure burns like good scotch or bad coffee."

Yeah, the former if you're a Patriots fan, the latter if a Bills backer.

Cheers,
Os.

"Unlike the other post-Kelly failures, Losman is one fans might actually enjoy having a beer with in a tavern a decade down the road, if only to share wistful thoughts of what could have been. Barback Rob Johnson will jealously, grudgingly nod in agreement."

That's funny, 'cause I always thought Johnson and Losman were cut from the same cloth. Two surfer-types who couldn't stand the heat of the NFL kitchen.

I fancy that Johnson & Losman would probably enjoy some chronic smoke, rather than drinks.

My thoughts on JP Losman in a timeline fashion:

I never bought into the facade that was JP Losman. The guy was projected as a 3rd round pick but Donahoe and Modrak traded up to get him after rumors circulated he was going to be drafted by Green Bay. This after Manning,Philips, and Rothliesberger were all gone. We hear that JP reminds people of a young Brett Favre and has that "swagger." Talk about being the runt of the litter.

I remember watching Mike Mayock on the upstart NFL Network say after the draft that JP had the physical tools, etc. but said, "The one thing I question about him is his decision making." Wow, he nailed that one.

I also remember ESPN running a piece on JP the sunday after the draft on sportscenter where a camera crew followed him to his home and gym to work out at Tulane . He said he was the best QB in the draft- better than Manning and Rivers. And that he was going to be a great NFL QB. Stuart Scott said, "can't wait for you to meet Ray Lewis rookie" at the end of the piece.

Then the guy shows up to camp with long hair, an Incubus T-shirt, and a drum set. We hear how Sam Wyche has him engage in public speaking engagements to improve his leadership skills.

His first snap in preseason is a designed QB sneak to "calm his nerves" per Mike Mularkey. Red flag.

JP Losman then relieves Drew Bledsoe in that sunday night drubbing by the Pats his rookie year and throws the worst interception I have ever seen. It looked like he deliberately tossed the football to that Pats LB. Pathetic. Red flag.

The following year at the draft when we didn't have our 1st round pick after we traded it to Dallas to draft JP, Donahoe, Wilson, and Losman go onto the draft stage and say that Losman was that year's 1st round pick, only selected one year earlier. Arrogance and stupidity.

Drew Bledsoe gets released then is critical of the move saying it's a mistake for the Bills to go with Losman.

Losman's 1st start against the Texans results in two earlty 1st quarter quick bombs to Lee Evans for TD's and the crowd is elated. The Bills offense then sputters for the the rest of the game. JP can't complete a pass to anybody. Red flag.

JP Losman cleans up garbage downtown.

The Jets loss this year really is symbolic. The guy has no feel for the game. Like Rob Johnson, he looked great in pads and practice but when the whistle he didn't have a clue.

I'll say the guy tried and never quit. But the bottum line is that the guy should have never been drafted #1 and just doesn't have the mental capacity to process and understand the game.
