Grant W---I don't disagree about Polian, he was hired by Terry Bledsoe and was promoted from within when Bledsoe had the heart attack. Polian was hired after the USFL folded coming to Buffalo from the Chicago Blitz where Levy coached. Talk about luck John Butler also worked for the Biltz.

Ralph did or does have a philsophy of hiring from within Polian worked out great ex player an GM Stew Barber was a stiff who alienated fans and players. The Bills did hire Bledsoe & Donohoooo from the outside which didn't pan out as we all know...

Sure, why not? And if you suck at it, you'd probably get a promotion, raise, and contract extension. If you're actually good, you'll get run out of town...
