Tigers trying to improve ugly Thursday night record

Clemson Tigers
Not that Clemson fans need any more reason to be down on the state of their beloved football program right now, but Thursday nights have not been kind to the Tigers under Tommy Bowden. His record in the made-for-ESPN tilts through his first nine seasons as Clemson coach is a lackluster 2-6, with one of the wins coming against lowly Temple in 2006. ...

On paper, this looks like a Clemson victory, as many have believed in most of the games they have played. Under normal and solid coaching circumstances, The Tigers would win no matter where the game was played, but this is not the case here. Wake should win because of the coaching disparity
(Grobe vs. Bowden) and due to the fact that he (Grobe) lost to Navy while overlooking them for the Clemson game. WF is refocused now. Furthermore, a two-week preparation means trouble for Clemson, and it's a road game on Thursday nite ESPN. All all those factors and you have a 32-17 Wake victory, with the Tigers giving a strong effort in the first half due to urgency. This urgency will not last, and
as in the Maryland game, lethargy will set in again on offense and defense in the second half. TB has indeed run out of tricks to "survive" another tense calling for his dismissal, as in past seasons.

I could be wrong, but it seems like Clemson doesn't do that well at night (or indoors) in general. I've often wondered if it's possible that Bowden has had some consistent failure to practice under the lights or shift the players' body clocks to a later schedule by having them wake up later in the week prior, or something that makes night games less successful.

More likely, Clemson's poor nighttime record is simply because national primetime night games usually feature TWO GOOD teams, not cupcake blow-outs. As you can see from the analysis at the following link, Bowden has historically only won 16% of his games against teams that have a .750, or greater, winning percentage. So his Thursday night record seems to coorelate with that data.
