Clemson Tigers
This time of year in college football, there's little to write about when it comes to the upcoming season. So, recruiting often becomes the rave. Such is the case with the Clemson Tigers, obviously barring a desire to speak of the quarterback situation. Not this time. Along with that, let's talk about the four-star athlete that they've received ...

Craig completed 22 passes, caught 16, and rushed for 408 yards? Dabo should just have Craig throw the ball to himself and let the rest of the team block.

Clemson has been an "athletic" team for several years. Just athleticism in itself is not enough to become a true college power. It takes will, smarts, and a GREAT coach too. As I have stated before,
Great programs tend to historically have great coaches over the course of time. Average programs tend to have average coaches over the years, and mediocre programs tend to consistently hire bad head coaches. It is an old saying, but you do indeed get what you pay for. For the last 15-20 years, Clemson has hired "middle-of-the roaders", and the results have been: average teams to average bowls. This year will be no different. 7-5 or 8-4 and an average bowl, because you have an average coach at the helm, regardless of the talent. In this day and age of college football, everybody in Division I has athletic talent. It is the LEADERS of the pack, the supremely gifted head coach, who is going to bring the best out of those athletes.

Hey NB. Long time no read. I certainly wish that Clemson had hired a top tier coach. (Heck I wish that they had fired Bowden and hired Butch Davis or Steve Spurrier back when they were available a few years ago.) It wouldn't surprise me if you're right about Dabo. And it wouldn't surprise me if he leads Clemson to an ACC title. We'll see. But it's a bigger risk hiring a nobody like Dabo than hiring a proven big-league coach. I'm acutally more concerned about Dabo making novice Napier the OC. If Dabo does great, Clemson will be fine for the coming years. But if Dabo goes like 8-4, I think recruits will stay away because they won't have any confidence that Dabo will be the coach 2-years from now. That will hurt Clemson for many years to come.
