Clemson Tigers
Much of Clemson's late-season collapse in 2006 was placed squarely on head coach Tommy Bowden's shoulders. His decision making and quarterback Will Proctor's poor play were the center of most of the griping coming from Tiger fans after another disappointing season. Not all of the coaching calls were bad, though. The staff's decision to go with a...

Admittedly I'm one of the ones who puts the vast majority of the blame on Bowden. Making bad calls and playing not to lose are one thing, but the excuse-making and spin-doctoring of stats Bowden has become known for is quite another. This is not a sign of a strong leader whatsoever. It's a sign of someone who's desperate and who thinks the fans are stupid enough to buy into his empty BS. There was no reason at all for a #10 Clemson to lose to unranked VaTech and then just collapse from that point on. But then again every season he's been there the Tigers have had a 3-5 game collapse at some point that in the end costs them a shot at the ACC title. He simply can't win games he should. This has been going on for years. Bowden teams always have one Achilles heel or another, and they always go neglected. Bowden has to go if Clemson really wants to win an ACC title. But given yet another unwarranted pardon by the athletic department it's clear to me that the school doesn't really care about conference championships. The fans definitely do, but not the university officials nor the Athletic Department. Bowden would not last 2 seasons in an SEC or Pac-10 school with the only exceptions being Vanderbilt or Stanford.

This article and the follow up comments are right on the money! For several years now as a tiger fan,I've watched this coach fumble the ball on his team and the university. He is too conservative! If you have noticed the past two years he coaches like a transparent administrator on the sidelines.Spence and the other coaches are doing all the playcalling and REAL work!I had high hopes for TB when he came and he is better than Hatfields & Wests we had here but after nine seasons he just can't get it done.Yea,the ACC is tougher now but great coaching prevails look at Wake Forest. They won it all with injuries and half the talent of Clemson!Meanwhile Spurrier is building a dynasty down in Columbia and will probably playing in SEC or national championships in the 2 years and TB will leading the tigers into mediocrity and music city toilet bowl?Everybody respond as many of us are feeling this coach may need go if he cant get it done this year with the schedule we got and the players.
