Miami Dolphins
Defensive end Matt Roth will probably be a good fit in a situational role for some NFL defense. It just won't be with the Miami Dolphins. Since arriving in South Florida via Nick Saban’s 2005 draft, the short-armed bull rusher has struggled to find his niche in the Dolphins’ defensive front. The former Iowa standout has had limited success in...

Roth will not be cut. They will like his toughness. He played behind Kevin Carter for years and last year was hurt for most of the season (Played through the injury- another thing Parcells will like) after a very good pre-season. He is a super hard worker who worked in martial arts to improve his handwork against O-linemen. He will be here this season - then, if does nto produce he will be given walking papers - but I don't think you will see that this upcoming season.

Roth's rookie season was OK. He played well behind Carter and was effective in the beginning of the seasonlast year before getting hurt like the rest of the DL. The major complaint against Roth in the 4/3 was his size and quickness for rushing the passer. His strength was run stopping and his non stop motor. Now in the 3/4 we are back to complaining about his size again. Roth size, strength run stopping and his non stop motor should better fit Parcell's prototype DE than Saban's whom drafted him. I beleive he will stick this year and barring an injury you will probably see him back next year.

I agree with the author. I think Roth will be out sooner than you think. He just doesn't have the skills needed to play DE in a 3-4 alignment. His run stopping skills have not been impressive considering that was what he was brought in for. He might do well on a different team with a different defensive scheme.
