Dolphins’ playoff loss a case of simple mathematics

Miami Dolphins
Consider this: Through 276 quarters of regular-season football, the Miami Dolphins turned the ball over just 13 times. At the forefront of their stinginess was quarterback Chad Pennington, who tossed only seven interceptions. In Sunday's wild-card playoff round loss to Baltimore, the Dolphins turned it over five times in just two quarters. ...

The Ravens defense absolutely crushed the Dolphins. They were dominant at the point of attack and when you have limited talent on offense as the Dolphins do, then it becomes very difficult to move the ball. Gimmicks and trick plays won't beat a defense like the Ravens. The phish will need to acquire a few home run hitters next year. Perhaps a 4.2 speed receiver and a take-it-to-the house back. These 'playmakers' will give Pennington or whoever is behind center a fighting chance...

The Fins just aren't there yet but they are heading in the right direction. With the pressure that Penny had to face it is amazing that they were able to hold the time of possesion battle. As for the dolphins needing home run hitters; I think they have them on the squad now but they need to develope a little more. The fact is that if you are going to win against Ds like the Ravens you must be able to pound the rock and wear down the D. The Fins have not run blocked real well since losing Smily.

Nope! The Phish do not have any playmakers...it's obvious and that is why they blew the dust off of a 40 year old formation to get the ball in the hands of the best player they had. When your leading receiver is a tight end, then your receivers are not scaring anyone. The Ravens were just too tough up front and played man coverage all day because they could. Miami needs to trade up or find a way to acquire a serious break speed receiver with the endzone on his GPS. That will make Ronnie and Rickie more dangerous. I watched it all year. Defenses would crowd the line to shut down the running game and leave the middle of the field open. That is why Fassano had so many catches over the middle. You are not going to 'pound' the rock against the Ravens. They haven't allowed a 100 yard rusher but twice all year. If you look at the teams that beat the Ravens they won by 'not turning the ball over' and by making Baltimore beat themselves. However, having 'playmakers' like the Colts, Giants and Stealers does help tremendously.
