Deconstructing Pennington’s postseason woes

Miami Dolphins
It really doesn’t matter what your opinion of Chad Pennington might be. Maybe you think that Pennington is the savior of a Miami Dolphins franchise that was in a state of unsettling disrepair. Or perhaps you think that he’s a noodle-armed, middle-of-the-road QB who benefited from the "Wildcat" formation as well as an ultra-conservative game plan ...

Morning Hugo, thanks for the read. I understand the stats you are using here, and I do think they have relevance to the overall picture, but, not the last game. I am of the opinion that very few qb's if any would have had a succussful day with the pressure he was under. When a qb is getting smacked hard every third pass attemp it takes it's toll and no qb in my memory is immune. I totally agree with the premise, I just have a hard time applying it to the ravens game. Thanks again Hugo, well done.

Interesting point, cnc, and it's funny that you mention it because one of my follow up articles (in the coming weeks) will cover the offensive line's ineptitude throughout the season, as well as how it contributed to Miami's demise against Baltimore.

Thanks for commenting!

Pennington did as well as any QB in the league and with a less than talented O-line and receiver corp. The Ravens game is hard to pin statistics on due to the incredible pressure Pennington was under. For all the hoopla the wildcat received, it was still a gimmick play put into place because the O-line was getting smashed at the point of attack. It worked and the Phins drug it out on every game since they beat New England in the first encounter. That scheme will not replace strong play at the point of attack and lack of talent on the line.
