Miami Dolphins
The recent trade of offensive lineman Samson Satele to the Oakland Raiders surprised many fans in South Florida, but there is a logical explanation from the Miami Dolphins -- whose fans may not be concerned as much regarding Satele’s departure but more so about the minuscule sixth-round pick the team received in return. While Satele started 32 ...

Good point. I have been a fan since 1967, and I can remember the time during the 70's and 80's when the Dolphins were always in the playoffs, including 5 Super Bowls. i also remember the price of that success...two decades of draft picks in the 20-28 range and the gradual accumulation of second-rate players. The Dolphins always managed to win 10 games, even with mediocre players, and paid the price at draft time. It takes a long time to rebuild, and we are paying that price. People look at Marino, Duper and Clayton and forget that during that era we were a one-dimensional team with no running game and a defense that could not stop the run or the pass. Marino had to score 50 points because the opponents were going to score 49. The "Killer-B"s" were not that good, and even Shula once commented that (with the exception of Offerdahl or Baumhower) none of the starting "Fins would start on any other roster. Miami was a very "non-physical" (finesse) team and tended to wear down, thus prompting our infamous pattern of December slumps.
I have always felt that when JJ took over from Shula he wanted to get value for Marino (just as he traded Walker when he arrived in Dallas) and restructure the team along the same lines as Dallas. I also think that his inability to do that led to his frustration.
For that reason I am glad to see team management listening to Parcells and allowing the guys in the trenches to do their jobs. Thanks for listening

Marc, you were one of many who had to watch the fins lose 50 to 49 against the Jets. Those were tough drafts because the solid players were off the boards, but for whatever reason that regime made bad decisions when it came to running backs and defensive players. Even with some solid players still on at later rounds. It's hard to figure out where the current regime is headed especially when they gave up an 09 pick for Tony McDaniel. He is not a starting caliber D-lineman and other than his young age he really doesn't have 'noticeable' skills needed to play in a 3-4.

Satele was on his way out according to the new regime. Sporano is a offensive line coach, and they want the center to be bigger, and smarter. Satele is a smart center but he was a little undersized for what they want.. I liked the 07 draft class, but they are all trade bait. I'm a huge fan of Beck, but he may get dealt to the cowboys. If the tuna can find a sucker team to take wilford, who will take six million from the cap next season just to hold gatoride bottles, that would be great. I would like to respond to JimmyD, I like the DT pick up from jacksonville. This guy is a parcells player. Now you may wonder what is a parcell's guy?? I live in the dallas/fort worth area, I'm familiar with coach sparano and parcells. They love to get these garbage players and use them as projects, to create productive players. They hate the superstar type. If everyone thinks that they are going to sign a big name, then don't hold your breath. Look at the system of the patriots, this is what the tuna left behind. build your franchise through the draft, make small moves through free agency, don't over pay for a veteran, control the ball through the run, and throw when needed. Its an old system, but it still works!
