Strength of schedule may be Dolphins’ undoing in 2009

Miami Dolphins
Congratulations, Miami Dolphins. You engineered one of the greatest single-season comebacks in sports history last year, going from a 1-15 laughingstock to an 11-5 division champion. For your effort, the NFL is rewarding you its toughest schedule (on paper) in 2009. Much of Miami's success last season came from a changed attitude from the top ...

We will see what they are made of. If they can't win most of these games than they are not as good as they would need to be to be considered a top team in the NFL.

This schedule is really a blessing in my opinion. One way or the other they will benefit from the toughest schedule in the NFL

Every year for the last few, I've found someone freaking out about their team having the "toughest schedule" on paper before the season. Every year I've conned one of them into betting whether or not they actually have the toughest schedule in the league...and every January when the actual SOS is available for comparison, I've come out with a little extra cash. I feel morally obligated not to take any fellow phin fans for a ride that way, but the principle is still there.
Yes I think its safe to say Miami will have a tougher schedule than last season, but the degree has to be in serious question based on the historic unreliability of the bogus preseason SOS (it amazes me pundits of all sorts continue to lend it so much weight year after year despite seeing its eventual failure vs. reality)
.
Besides even if it does end up being a hard SOS, the exact arrangement of games is pretty favorable.
No 3 game road stretches, a nice home stretch in October to hopefully build some momentum for a push into the 2nd half of the season. A well placed bye week (for once...seems to me Miami gets shafted a lot with either too early or too late) and another stretch of mostly home games to close the season which gives an advantage for a potential late playoff push.
