Miami Dolphins
While the most shocking pick on Day 1 of last weekend's NFL draft had to be the Oakland Raiders' selection of Darius Heyward-Bey, the most interesting choice came at No. 44; with that pick, the Miami Dolphins grabbed West Virginia quarterback Pat White. White can do a little bit of everything, whether it's quarterback, running back or wide ...

Good points but I don't see this pick taking away from Ronnie Brown at all. Last year Baltimore showed how to beat the '08 version of the Wildcat. I think Pat White gives them several options. Everyone assumes that he either has to take over as QB or as Ronnie Browns role in the formation. I don't think that is the case. Imagine this. Ronnie Brown takes the snap in the Wildcat formation, so teams still have to sell out on stopping the run. BUT instead of hading to Ricky Williams on an end around, he hands to Pat White. NOW at WR like Ginn has one on one coverage and the pass truly becomes an option. I am not pretending to be all knowing about the many variations of this fun formaiton, but I don't think this pick is "much to Ronnie Brown's chagrin" at all. I think those two will thrive.

I studied the games between Miami and the Ravens...thanx to DVR. The most glaring issue was the ferocity of the Ravens linebackers. They absolutely destroyed the Miami blocking scheme and the play was over before it had a chance. They moved around and created issues with gap control and that just killed the wildcat. It won't matter who is running the wildcat, if they don't fix the O-line then other teams have a textbook blueprint of how to defeat it. The Dolphin's could come up with the 'Faux Wildcat'. Same type of formation, but with different shifts in the line. They have to be careful though, cuz once you pull that guard he is committed and there is no going back from there. It all lives and dies with the O-line...

I think he will make a great 3rd stringer behind Pennington, and Henne. And I also think that if they rotate him in a few plays to run wildcat, then they will do well this year. (AGAIN!!!) :)
