First-half Dolphins observations from Kansas City

Miami Dolphins
Because I cover both the Kansas City and Miami, Thursday's preseason matchup between the two teams was a perfect opportunity to thoroughly break down how the Dolphins' first and second units played during the opening half. First off, neither team appeared ready to knock down the Super Bowl's door at all, so it's hard to say how good the Dolphins...

I like that Cameron is going for it on 4th down in the *PRE* season. Lets see what the guys are made of, and how they will step up to challenges the coach gives them. Will he go for it on 4th down all the time during the regular season? Come on, lets be realistic. We know he wont.

Hi - just a couple of thoughts to add here.

First, I disagree that the 4th and goal decision was a bad one - given that it's only a pre-season game. I'm sure Cam knows his kicker can make a chippie inside the 10, but there will be times when the Dolphins need a TD and must go for it on fourth down. I agree that the play selection, and execution, wasn't very good, however.

I was shocked, and a little nervous, to see Ronnie Brown returning kickoffs in a preseason game. Any hope for a playoff appearance will require him to be healthy and productive for 16 games, and it seems silly, and risky, to have him in there on special teams.

I liked the one-handed snag by Courtney Anderson in the fourth quarter, and I liked the hard running of the two back-up RBs.

I agree that the DBs are the weak spot on the D - by far. Let's just hope that the front 7 can cause enough mayhem to force oppsosing QBs into quick throws.

I think Fields clearly has the makings of a good punter, despite the rough moments last night.

What horrible commentary. Look, I wouldn't call Cameron's 4th and goal decision bad. He wanted to see how his O-line would do in that situation then work on what needs to be worked on. This O-line will be tested all year so they need situations like this to grow. Also, Fields only double clutched one punt and KC had 4 punt returns for a total of 39 yards...Wow, thats really outkicking the coverage. The O-line maybe opened up 1 or 2 holes and the pass blocking was horrible. They still need LOTS of work. Ronnie got a lot of yards just through brute strength.
