Eli’s elevation should serve as lesson to impatient Dolphins

Miami Dolphins
Eli Manning is on top of the world. His New York Giants are preparing to face the mighty New England Patriots for a Super Bowl championship and a shot at immortality. Win or lose, Peyton's little brother is now securely entrenched as the Giants' franchise quarterback of the present and future. But as we all know, that hasn't always been the case....

Eli isn't the only rookie QB you could have used to illustrate the error of using the first year stats to determine the future of any QB's success in the NFL. Two HOF'ers that were worse are Terry Bradshaw and Troy Aikman, in fact, in Terry's rookie season his comp % was a 39.6 for the year with 6TD's and 24 INT's. He would have never made it with some of the fans the Fins have today.

Don't lump us all in together,,, I wanted Beck to play the whole damn year after Green went down and I hope he is given the chance to take all the snaps this year, regardlesss.

I think Dolphins fans (if not the media) will demonstrate quite a bit more patience this coming season because we have something that has been lacking for years -- stability. Even if Sparano proves to be in over his head, Tuna isn't jumping ship anytime soon because there aren't many other boats that would accomodate him without him willingly taking a huge step down.

Beck will get an opportunity to play when he's ready. It might not be to start the season, but that's OK. Trent Green or another veteran can hand over to the keys to car when the coaching staff feels Beck is ready. I think Cameron's biggest mistake was giving in to media pressure and starting Beck over Lemon. Putting in a 'package' for Beck to run a few series here or there with Lemon still the starter would have been a much better situation, but 0-whatever makes desperate men take desperate actions.

Miami can go 0-10 this coming year and as long as there's a healthy veteran at QB the pressure to play Beck won't be the same as it was on Cameron. Or at least, Sparano will have someone other than the media (Parcells) to listen to.

Alternatively, Beck could win the starting role at the beginning of the season and take his lumps. He will surely look better than he did this past year and even if he falters bringing a veteran in off the bench won't mean Beck has to go permanently back to the bench.
