New York Giants
I'm aware that it's old news to anyone who follows the NFL at all, but the New York Giants took one Mathias Kiwanuka with their first-round pick in this year's NFL draft. Many analysts and fans alike had one question: Why? If you look at the Giants' previous season, it's very hard to argue that they needed help at the defensive end position. You...

I think its pretty obvious what their plan may be. If Kiwanuka turns out to be halfway decent by the trading deadline either Umenyiora or Strahan will be on their way to another team with the best offer for the Giants. Probably Strahan because he is older and has less time left as an effective player. Or, if one of them turns out to be fragile again this year then Kiwanuka will be waiting to step in in the emergency and they won't lose much. Either way the Giants are winners because they planned ahead. I'm betting on the trade though, simply becaue they could want to fill holes with players that they know can play, instead of taking a chance on drafting someone who could turn out to be a bust. You have no way of knowing with a draft choice, which is why rookie first rounders salaries are so ridiculous. In the next negotiations between the players association and the NFL that should be the first thing on the agenda, getting rookie salaries more in line with what they do in the NBA, NHL and MLB, strict limits on rookie pay and give the money to the vets who have proven they can play.

I have noticed that Rookie Willie Evans (73) has been showing great potential during camp. He has really improved. I think he has a chance for a DE spot.

They are NOT going to trade strahan and especially not Osi. Strahan has 2 more yearls left maximum and will retire a Giant. Osi is n his way to becoming a 10 time pro bowler. I think all of the coaches know that during a game, the DE need breaks and the the Giants thinking was they dont want to miss a beat when either of the starters come out. Also, by the time Strahan retires, either Tuck or Kiwanuka will be ready to play well and a 3 DE rotaion is a must have in the NFL.
