Detroit Lions
“What is going on with the Detroit Lions' defense?” Not yet officially a rhetorical question – get back to us after another season of Millen era mediocrity, though – the plaintive cry of the Lions fan is instead good for several columns’ worth of examination by a team of football sages, straight-up gridiron Ph.Ds and MDs flown in from...

O's what about the 40 fumbles?
What about the offense giving up 35 turnovers?
what about them facing the most plays against them because the offense kept turning the ball over as the 9ers and the sack Martz does!
There where only three teams better on fumbles for a defense and all of them except the Vikes had more attemps!
They got turnover if their offense had been better about holding on to the ball say like avg on INT's 17 vs the 22 they gave up thats 5
or avg in fumbles like 7 vs the 13 the had. There's 6 more!
I'm not great at math but that seems like if the offense would had done an average job only average not good the would have had 11 less turn overs on offense.
Again I'm no rocket scientist but if 11 turn overs is the diference between the Packers and the dolphins well I think it can be said they could have squeezed out 2 more wins to make the playoffs!
That's beeing generous!
The lons drafted a sure handed rb and plan to run more balance their attack and keep their d off the field and I think Kittnas prodiction was a year early -1
9-7 wild card!

The next thing you should play doctor for is the diagnosis on Matt Millen. Untill he leaves I don't think I can take this team seriously. If the have 7 wins this year I'll be shocked and for some reason those 7 wins year in and year out keep Millen's job. Even when the team starts out 6-2.

Questions on the back end aside, the lions hurt their pass defense in the front seven. Losing Shaun Rogers and Kalimba Edwards hurts the secondary. Ernie Sims may or may not be able to stop the run on his own, but he definitely can't be responsible for getting to the passer, too. And Cory Redding Leaves something to be desired as a three-technique. Of course the secondary will be woeful again if the lions enter the season with their front seven in shambles.
