Long season for Cornhusker castaways

Nebraska Cornhuskers
It's been a long season for the castaways. No man on a football field is on an island like the cornerback, out in coverage on a wide receiver. For Nebraska's Cortney Grixby and Andre Jones, it must feel like their little plots are drifting further and further away from the mainland of Husker Nation all the time. They've had a rough season:...

The silent majority of husker fans support both of those guys. Our secondary depth is razor thin--we have only inexperienced freshman behind those two, so they never get a breather. Despite that, both have made very key plays throughout the season. Yes, they struggled at times, but they will be contributors next season when we have depth again.

A small, vocal group of husker fans hate them and write vile things about them, but they in no way represent the appreciation that most fans have for them. j

Thanks to Grixby and Jones for a hard-fought season.

It wasn't fair to place Grixby in that position of ridicule when those two freshman could have done better just by being taller. And just tell Andre to keep his big mouth shut next fall or one of those CA ends will shut it again.

I don't put nearly as much of the blame on the players as the I do on the coaches and their schemes. How do you expect a corner to make a play when he's 10 yards off the ball on every play? Teams have run three step drops on us all year and just killed that defensive formation. Also, when Oklahoma started rolling out their quarterback, why didn't Cosgrove adjust? He's the real problem. Him and his defensive backs coaches. What coach goes in the paper to state that his players don't know what they are doing and if they aren't good enough to start, why play them in a nickel situation? Maybe you play them because your 250 lbs linebacker isn't fast enough to cover my grandmother, God bless her soul!
