Unexpectedly, 49ers are once again in line to draft a big man

San Francisco 49ers
Somehow, in one year, San Francisco's line went from being offensive to opponents to being offensive to the 49ers themselves. In the flip of a switch – or the flippin’ switch of offensive coordinators – the Niners’ front five went on a nosedive, going from a position of strength to one of weakness. Considering that unfortunate turn of ...

It seems the 49ers are finding out the expensive way what Bills fans and management already knew about Jonas Jennings, he's a talented offensive lineman but has serious problems staying on the field. Tom Donahoe made more than his share of mistakes in Buffalo but drafting Jennings wasn't one of them. Nor was resisting signing him to a mega deal when he became a free agent. Jennings drafted as a marginal guard prospect was a pleasent surprise when he showed he could ablely man the left tackle spot. But the guy was always dinged up and either in the trainers room or playing at far less than 100%. Seems nothing changed when he changed uniforms.
I hope Nate Clements works out better for you. He was a solid corner for us for most of his career here but only became "the difference maker" he so named himself towards the end of his last season here. As much as the Bills miss his skills I can't fault them for refusing to meet his inflated market price.
It's sort of interesting the Bills had a tendency to take and overpay players the Patriots felt were over-valued and the Niners seemed to do the same thing with the Bills. Well at least the Niners were signing ex-Bills players in the seeming prime of their careers and not their twilight as the Bills did with Malloy and Bledsoe.

A friend ran a mock for the Niners @ another site and we were able to get Gosder Cherilus and Kentwan Balmer.

Cherilus is a very good tackle and quite underrated in this draft. Very sturdy run blocker who switched to left tackle and had a solid season helping his BC QB Matt Ryan make his name part of the Heisman race.

Balmer has had some running issues in 40 times, but was pegged as the no 2 DT behind Dorsey coming into the draft based on film. He had to trade his 2 and 3 to move up on him but now he may slide and be there into rd 3.

We felt it was important to add protection and blocking so Gore could control games to help his QB and defense. Now Martz is in town to direct the pass attack as well.

Then Balmer helps keep blockers off superstar LB Patrick Willis.

The last pick was injured G Andrew Crummy of Maryland, projected to go in the first day until his setback. Hew was projected as a project to develop as a starter by next year, the Niners latest injury needs would not give them that luxury of time and depth provided they add a tackle in this draft.
