San Francisco 49ers
The San Francisco 49ers are like most teams in the NFL in that they have a number of unanswered questions which will not be settled until preseason games begin. For instance, every San Francisco fan is wondering whether Alex Smith or Shaun Hill will be barking out signals under center once the regular season starts. Niners loyalists also want...

Another great article Jeff:

Those are pretty deep questions. Being a fan, I have thought about most of those questions, but we won't see progress, or results until at least preaseason.

1. Martz, and Nolan are like the odd couple. Two different and opposite philosophies, both needing each other's success to keep their job. How will it work? Like most. That set up is working pretty well in Dallas. An aggressive offensive coordinator, attempting to get plays relayed to a quarterback through a conservative Defensive Head Coach/coordinator. A very strange dichotomy that will make watching the sideline just as entertaining as watching the field. (hopefully)

2. I touched on this earlier, but the line will be average at best. I will consider this year a succes for the 'Niner O-line, if they keep the sack total under 4 per game.

3. The Defense has been a hodge-podge of 3-4 to 4-3 since Nolan got there. In the beginning the linbacker core wasn't too good, except for Julian Peterson, and until the 49ers got better 'backers, they would switch as the situation dictated. Now, since they have talent, (current, returning, and free agent) I think they will run a priority 3-4 with an occasional 4-3 as the situation dictates.

4. Hmm, I only want Takeo if he is going to help solidify the 3-4 to becoming a strength, and shut down the run. (passing the medical helps) If the 49ers can get him on the cheap? Why not?

The 49ers really do have a shot out in the NFC West. Seattle isn't going to be as good as usual and well the Rams and Cardinals have there own questions. It seems as whoever can put a decent season together this division could be wide open for the taking.

The key for the 49ers is Alex Smith, plain and simple. If he can revert back to the decent play he showed under Norv Turner, the 49ers have a chance for a decent season. While the other teams in the NFC West have their share of holes, the 49ers have the most questionable quarterbacking. That's a bad place to have concerns.
