San Francisco 49ers
As the NFL offseason progresses and the draft approaches, the talk around the San Francisco 49ers centers on the most high-profile position on the team – quarterback. The 49ers obviously have numerous holes to fill as they prepare for the 2009 season. You don’t finish 7-9 and miss the playoffs unless there are areas of the team that need to be ...

Hmmm... obviously you need very little in the way of expertise or 49er knowledge in order to be a writer for this site. 1. Alex Smith was never "benched." That whole statement was so ill-informed that it's embarrassing. Alex Smith suffered a shoulder injury, was out for 3 games, came back before going on injured reserve. 2. And to say he was a "bust" in 2007 is highly questionable. He'd had a good year in 2006, played three games in 2007 and an injury essentially took him out after that. You think maybe the reason he's potentially getting another shot is because he still hasn't fully exhausted his 1st shot? Realfootball365 needs to start hiring people who know what they're talking about. Did they already have an Alabama writer or is it that no self-respecting person in San Francisco would write for this lousy website?

Joe,

You may not call it being "benched," but Smith lost his starting job last preseason to a guy in J.T. O'Sullivan who was with his eighth team in his eight-year NFL career. That's hardly the stuff that No. 1 draft picks are made of. If Smith hasn't exhausted his first shot in the NFL, then he surely has given it quite a workout by completing a little over 50% of his career passes for 19 TDs and 31 INTs.
