49ers’ offense, defense went in different directions

San Francisco 49ers
It seems the 49ers' two squads went in opposite directions during the preseason. In the beginning, the offense was clicking. The only real issue was the battle between Kwame Harris and Joe Staley on the offensive line, which has since been resolved. Quarterback Alex Smith looked sharp in the first two games, and the line was giving him time....

It all comes down to Gore. If he stays healthy and has a similar year to last year, the 49ers could make a run. If he goes down, they will be lucky to win 3 games.

Dont place too much stock in the pre season. None of us really know what we have. I wouldnt say that niners offense dissapperaed or the defense has played better. I honestly feel the Niners were playing vanilla on both offense and defense. Time will tell starting in a week.

They will be lucky to win 3 games period. Gore can't keep from getting hurt in a non-contact practice, he seems like the kind of guy who can't play a full season without missing a couple games here and there from injury. Smith will feel the pressure of becoming a bust, and in true Ryan Leaf fasion fall flat on his yuppie face. Then what? Nolan is worried about wearing a suit on the sideline and not addressing his piss-poor D? He thought overpay one player and that would get it done, just enough so the media cound'nt say they did "nothing" to fix the neglected below average D. Well to say the least, thats not good enough. Just like the niners
