New England Patriots
Yours truly just received his first official invite to a fantasy draft. The conversation went something like the following; players are myself and Paul, league commissioner/St. Louis Rams fan. Paul: Blah blah ... throw in a few bucks ... blah blah ... drink lots of beer at the Iguana ... blah blah ... and we’d love to have ya. Os: All right,...

In an eight team league I see taking Brady after number 2, but in a 10 or a 12, I can't see taking him until after 6, since there will not be enough quality running backs to go around. Meanwhile, the difference between Brady and Manning and Romo was relatively small, and then to Roethlisberger, just slighttly smaller. The point is, mid to late round quarterbacks can be effective fantasy producers, while the early picks, in my view, should be used on positions that can't be shored up like that in later rounds. I mean, Brady's a beast in pure statistical terms, but if taking brady means sacrificing a number one running back when Tony Romo should be available in round two or three, I take the running back and shoot for Romo or Big Ben a little later. And that's only if I'm not biding my time to take a shot on a sleeper like David Garrard or Eli Manning or something.

You can take Brady early if you want, theres always depth at positions like RB and WR and sense now most teams use a 2 back system, there's no reason why you can't take one or the other. And players get hurt so when one goes down there are others who can produce waiting to come in. Like with Derick Ward and Ahmad Bradshaw in NY. After Jacobs went down Ward took over and had 602 yds. and when Ward went down Bradshaw came in and did fine, especially in the playoffs.

People can't expect Brady, Moss, or Welker to even have similiar numbers as least season. All of these guys had career years, don't expect that again out of them. I think it would be best to pass on all of them actually. Like nhartman said, there is about 5 or 6 QBs who are all going to have similiar like type numbers that can be drafted in later rounds. As for Moss and Welker you have to expect there numbers to fall, probably not by much(esp. Moss) but they must a little. Not that Maroney doesn't have the skill but the Patriots and Josh McDaniels don't have the dedication of running the football for Maroney to be an elite fantasy back. As for the defense I think ESPN did a special on it last year that the difference between the top rated D and the 20th( I believe) was practially nothing. Meaning that just wait till the last 2 or 3 rounds to draft your D, it's better to get you're actual backup players than to draft a defense.
