Oakland Raiders
In one of the most coherent bits of his public announcement on Tuesday, Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis lamented that “It hurts because I picked the guy. I picked the wrong guy." Sure, Davis was referring to poor Lane Kiffin, but here’s to thinking that we’ll be hearing the same words in, what, another 582 to 616 days, max? While this writer has ...

Al Davis is a CLASS ACT!!! What are you smokin' SVDURAN1 (last comment on previous thread).

Shanahan, White, Bugel, Gruden, Callahan, Turner, Shell, Kiffin, a combined averaged 1.75 years as head coach. Of course it's all their fault, and nothing ever gets pinned on Al Davis by the delusional in the nation. Funny to see Shanahan, Gruden and Turner all having success now. But of course if you believe Al Davis, all that success comes with an asterisk. Come on!!!

Al Davis moved a team that sold out every single game and had the best fans in the world in Oakland to Los Angeles, which struggled to sell out and brought a criminal element to our fan base. Obviously you don't live in the Bay Area, otherwise you would not think Al Davis is a class act.

Al Davis has sued everyone and their Mother (NFL, Rozzelle, Los Angeles, Oakland, etc.), which makes it hard to do anything in the NFL and get any respect. And Al Davis is saying he's working with Oakland on a new stadium. If you believe this, I have a bridge to nowhere to sell you. The City of Oakland would never work with Al Davis... They HATE AL DAVIS and because of him Oakland will lose the A's to Fremont.

Al Davis claims tampering by Belechick, but according to the NFL there has NEVER been a written complaint to such. Do you really think AL FRIGGIN' DAVIS wouldn't file a complaint if he had proof??? I mean look at all the BS he presented yesterday. He's just spewing nonsense because he is bitter that Randy Moss quit on the Raiders and he traded him (for and Idiotic non-conditional draft pick) to only see him have a career year. Again, if you think Lane Kiffin FORCED Al Davis to trade Randy Moss, you certainly don't know Al Davis. Has Al ever been forced to do anything? NO!!!!

Also, if Al Davis did have proof that Kiffin was indeed interviewing to coach at Arkansas, why didn't he fire him right then and there? Obviously he wouldn't have had to been paid. Why didn't he fire him in the off-season if he had proof? Knowing what he SUPPOSEDLY knew, why wait until 4 games into the season to fire Kiffin? Doesn't make sense.

Why would Lane Kiffin ask Davis to write a resignation letter for him, rather than Kiffin write his own resignation letter? Doesn't make sense.

Lane Kiffin had say in all player personnel decisions? Really!!! Every coach that has ever come through Oakland/Los Angeles has stated that they were forced to keep players they didn't want because of Al Davis (Jett, Brayton, Williams, Schweigert, Gibson, Gault, Whitted, all come to mind).

Al Davis also said Rob Ryan was far too valuable at Defensive Coordinator to be moved to Head Coach. If this is evidence that Al Davis has lost it, I don't know what else does.

I'm sure we'll hear a compelling counter to Al Davis' claims, and I'm sure some of those will make a lot more sense than what Al Davis was spewing yesterday.

It's fine to dislike Kiffin. He was not a perfect coach by any stretch of the imagination, but there was progress made to the team on the field. Him and Al didn't get along, so he needed to go. While I don't like it, I do agree at this point, with so much bad blood between Davis and Kiffin, and media scrutiny on the players, he had to be let go. But don't put this all on Kiffin. Just look at our history and you will see that Al Davis is NOT a Class Act, and he for the most part has been the biggest problem when it comes to the Raiders. Why wouldn't he be, as he is the ONLY constant on some very bad teams.

With that said, I LOVE Cable. He's a life-long Raiders fan as well as has a bit of Bruin Blue running through his veins. He's a no nonsense kind of guy, and contrary to Os, I think he will do a good job. I think some of you are expecting miracles though, which is not going to happen. Our offensive line is not great at pass protecting, so to think JaMarcus is going to be unleashed, I just don't see it (or think it would be smart). If he's going to see any success in the next 3/4 of the season, he will need big help from our wide receivers. Javon Walker needs to start earning his money. Curry needs to re-learn how to catch the ball. And Johnnie Lee Higgins just needs to continue developing, as he's been doing a good job since the pre-season. Bottom line though, we are built to run the ball first, and should play off of that.

Most important, if what Al Davis said is true, and all the head coach has to do is walk up to Rob Ryan and tell him to Blitz, and he will.... May I suggest to Cable right now, instruct Rob Ryan to stand by you whenever the Defense is on the field, you'll be needing to suggest Blitz an awful lot:-)

OsHole, you really are an OsHole. You haven't even seen the Cable Guy coach his first game yet. As a REAL member of the Nation, I couldn't be more pleased with the pick. The team will finally realize they don't play for the coach, they play for the team. We get a highly motivated team without the diva distraction. And the defense will finally get some rest.

While everyone was concentrating on Al and Ryan, a few of us here saw who the real problem was. And when we play Nawlins, we're going to see just how much Kiffin was holding back JaMarcus. What's ironic is that JaMarcus's emergence will come in a place he's very familiar with. The Super Dome. The last time he played there, he threw for 336 yds and 3TDs. Not bad...

I think the season may have been saved. We can still go 9-3 for the remainder of the schedule for a 10-6 record.
