Davis and Cable: A match made in heaven?

Oakland Raiders
After a month-long process, the Oakland Raiders' Tom Cable shed his "interim" label and became the 16th head coach in franchise history earlier this week. Cable's appointment leaves one question: Why did it take over a month for the Raiders to hand him the reins? After the Raiders fired Lane Kiffin early in the season, Cable stepped in and did...

Why did it take so long to name Cable you ask??? From what I heard (one of my best friends is good friends with one of our popular beat writers) , Al Davis wanted to interview Todd Haley the Offensive Coordinator of Arizona, but when he was told flatly Haley would not interview with the Raiders (kind of like Whisenhunt a couple of years ago did), Al Davis went ahead and removed the interim label from Cable.

Whether that's true or not, let's just pray that our next year Raiders looked like the Raiders who won 2 straight games to end the season, rather than the team who was 2-8 coming into the last 2 games of the season under Cable.

Let's not fool ourselves, there's tons of work to be done. While there was progress in the last few games of the season, Cable did finish 4-8, and only by SVDuran's math, that is good.

Anyway, it looks like we'll lose either Nnamdi or Lechler, and I just read (shocked I didn't read about it sooner) about the TURD hitting Lechler in the face on the team plane and the powers that be (Al Davis) did nothing to Turd and now Lechler wants the hell out of here.

Just SVDURAN1 and every Beat Writer in the Nation recognizes the improvement Cable was responsible for. It's like RaiderCraig didn't witness Kiffin kicking holes in the wall before and after leaving. Actually Cable did better than good. He made the most of what he had to work with. He showed the talented players he isn't afraid to cut the dead wood to get them on the field. So even with the killer schedule, Cable just might be exactly what the doctor ordered.

I've read that the death of Cable's father pushed the announcement back.

Just my view.......Al always knew he had Cable waiting in the wings so he took his time, looked at other options and when none of them worked out, went to his back-up plan i.e. Cable. Is anyone out there surprised by the hiring of Cable ? That might have been a better question to ask Brad.

Have a great weekend everyone.
