Oakland Raiders
The Oakland Raiders' favorable schedule could lead to a return to prominence in 2009. Thanks in large part to a relatively weak AFC West, things are setting up nicely in Oakland. While the Raiders square off against the likes of the Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburgh Steelers, they have several winnable games during the upcoming season. Four teams...

There do seem to be alternating easy stretches and hard ones. If the Raiders have improved themselves significantly, by opening night, this could be a wonderful season! A sweep of AFC West rivals, in the first 3 games, almost locks up the division crown. I'd have to conclude, that Oakland has become the best of the AFC West. They could be better. They play only 3 or 4 excellent teams: the Steelers, Ravens, Giants, and maybe the Eagles. The Cowboys, Browns, Jets, and Chargers could be up or down. The Raiders could be getting back to their winning ways in 2009. Al & Tom still have improvements to make. NFL beware! The Silver & Black is back. Have Faith, Raider Nation!

Just give me a Warriors Death. Is that too much to ask? People like John Madden never retire, it's just not in there bones to sit around by the pool with that white stuff on their noses and drink Blue Hawaiians with a little umbrella in it. John Madden will be the new G.M.

There is no way John Madden takes on the General Manager position (nor do I think Al wants to hire anyone for that position). Madden even said as much to local writers and KCBS (where he has a show). That doesn't mean he won't be around. He lives locally, so he'll attend more games and more practices, and if Al ever wanted Madden's advice, he'd definitely give it. It's just at this late stage in life (he's 73), there is no way he wants to take on more stress than he ever had with broadcasting. Anyway, I'll truly miss him as a broadcaster, but look forward to seeing him around at the games and in the West Side Club at the Oakland Coliseum:-)

As for the schedule, it obviously looks tough, but as I said in a previous thread, all the AFC West teams have nearly identical schedules, so it doesn't preclude us from winning the division if we just handle business within the division. At this point, 100% of our attention should be on our fist game against San Diego, who have won 11 straight against us, and it would be devastating if they make it 12 in our own house on National TV.
