This is so stupid. The Redskins have had this name for how many years now? I think these Indians should just shut up.

I'm actually on both sides. I empathise with native americans and would not like to insult anyone, in their culture. Even if it was unknowingly. But I do understand that the name has been part of the football program, for a long time.

I guess the big question is; When was the term "Redskin" considered a racial slur, and does that predate the team? If that is the case, when did the term cease being a racial slur? And does that approximate time coincide with the naming of the team?

I don't subscribe to the fact that is a racist term, and don't use it in any other circumstance than describing the team that plays proffesional fooball in Washington DC. (Landover Md, actually) Either way, try not to come down too hard on the ones who are offended. Imagine if the name of a baseball/football team was once considered a racial slur of whatever race you belong to?
