New Orleans Saints
About an hour before sunrise in New Orleans on Monday morning, ESPN Radio analyst Mike Greenberg is proclaiming that if the New Orleans Saints finish the deal and win the Super Bowl, it will be "the greatest sports story in history." Maybe the late Herb Brooks, who led the United States hockey team to an improbable victory over the Soviet Union...

O, what a story these Saints have been! The ultimate ultimate would have New Orleans beating that Super Bowl machine known as the New England Patriots in a clean tightly-contested matchup...

Saints-Patriots: I can hardly wait.

Randy, This was a very outstanding article. It was very informative and yet you still were able to throw in a dash of humor. Your writing still is very, very similar to the author Garrison Keillor. I agree; this truly is one of the greatest sports story ever next to the US beating the Soviet Union or Boise's upset to Oklahoma. These are very exciting times down on the Bayou. Boy what a ride this has been for the team as well as the City of N.O.. I can only imagine what the ride will be like if the Saints win the NFC Championship on Sunday and move to the Granddaddy of them all-The Super Bowl. This will be great for the City as well as the whole State of Louisiana. Bourbon St and everywhere else will be going completely crazy. Who of would thought a team that was 3-13 last year would be a contender to make it to the Super Bowl; a first in the franchise's 40yr history? I listened to the pre-game show and the opening message was very emotional. The Saints are a very special team, a team that plays as one; they are a complete football team. No one player is out for themselves. Last Sunday's game was a hell of a game. I think it was one of the most exciting and emotional games next to the opening of the dome on MNF. The one memorable play I'll remember was seeing Deuce move the whole Eagles defense line over the goal line without a helmet. That was totally awesome and amazing. That was shear determination on Deuce's part. The other memorable play was at the start of the game when Reggie was creamed, he shook it off and returned 2 plays later and played a hell of a game after that. The up coming NFC Championship will be a very exciting game. Maybe Brees can use the "really nice shotgun" he wanted for Christmas; to do a little Bear Hunting, bag a few Bears and feed the team as well as the whole Crescent City a big ol' pot of Bear Gumbo. The ultimate match up would be the Saints facing the Colts. On Packers.com they did a survey and 54% said they would like to see the Saints-Colts face each. Outta be interesting; wonder who the Mannings will be rooting for since they are from the area? Hopefully "Bruce the Almighty" and his counterparts can keep the magic mojo going on the team through the Super Bowl. Whatever happens on Sunday, Saints fans everywhere can hold their heads high and be proud of what the Black n Gold have done; for a city that is still in dire straits. They have brought a lot of joy and happiness to so many folks who are still struggling. I will be wearing my Black n Gold on Sunday cheering the team on. Buddy D and others that are no longer with us are smiling down on what this team has done accomplished. They are one game a way from the Super Bowl and bringing the Lombardi trophy home to N.O. Geaux Saints!!!!!
